6 killed, 2 wounded in a clash on Compostela Valley

Six soldiers were killed and two were wounded in action in a clash between the military and the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Manurigao, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Saturday afternoon.

According to the initial investigation of the Quezon Provincial Police, it was around 1pm when the Army conducted immersion in the said barangay when they encountered the NPA rebels that led them to a conflict.

Soldiers who were killed by the rebels were identified as 2nd Lt. Domingo, Corp. Maglantay, PFC Sino, PFC Membrillo, PFC Narvaland PFC Mohamador. The two wounded soldiers were identified as PFC Española and Private Pabay and were brought to the nearest hospital at the Davao City.

Meanwhile, PO3 Arnel Falicilda of the Compostela Valley Police Office said in a phone interview that casualties of the rebels are still left undetermined but bloodstains from the rebels’ spot were noticed in the crime scene.

The Quezon Provincial Police Office orders a full alert status while follow-up investigations and pursuit operations are still on-going.

As of the moment, there are no civilian casualties with the said encounter.
